María José Pérez, who performed cante jondo, and the Niño de las Cuevas, who accompanied her playing the guitar, delighted the audience last Friday in the peña El Morato. There have been brilliant performances this year in this peña in order to celebrate its twenty- fifth anniversary. And this one was as good as any.
The performance of the seguiriyas was wonderful in the privileged voice of María José Pérez. Her cante achieved to transmitted many feelings which deeply touched the audience that packed the place. Her performance was highly praised by the enthusiasts present there. She performed many flamenco palos, such as alegrías, malagueñas, tientos-tangos, peteneras, tarantos and fandangos. But undoubtedly, the seguiriyas were the best. The audience had goose bumps and tears of emotion running down their faces. Both the audience and the peña El Morato were fortunate witnesses of this outstanding performance of María José Pérez por seguiriyas.
I also have to emphasize the performance of the Niño de las Cuevas, as wonderful as he always is, in perfect connection with the cante. The guitarist was splendid in some traditional toques -playing- with his guitar called Gerundina, which is an exquisite piece
