the public got enthusiastic about the performance of the bright young hope from Almería María José Pérez and the consolidated artists El Cabrero, La Macanita and Rocío Segura.
The audience was astonished at the voice of a young hope that is being consolidated. She is twenty years old. She began her performance singing cantes from Almería; then, she continued with some seguiriyas and she finished with a fandango full of emotion. She lit up the playground of the school La Salle with her voice. It was Tuesday, 23rd of August, at 11 pm, at these of the festival of Almería organised by the department of the Council in charge of this kind of events. It was a quiet night, a night of flamenco puro. The talented guitarist from Seville Antonio Carrión accompanied her. María José delighted the audience; it is worth mentioning her second performance because, as she assures, the seguiriyas is her favourite palo on stage.
The cantaora from Almería, who was dressed in red, stood up to sing the last song. She received an enthusiastic ovation from the audience from her city and some people even stood up in order to show their respect to the artist.
María José, who started her artistic career when she was thirteen, has already won several flamenco prizes. According to her sister, Montse Pérez, she wanted to sing a saeta to the Virgin of Soledad, so she went to the Antonio de Torres peña in order to learn. Since then, she has never stopped learning.
She trains in order to improve her technique working in the flamenco company of Mario Maya in Granada. This summer she will perform each night until the 27th of August in the Palacio de Carlos V (Charles V Palace) in the Alhambra of Granada. According to her sister, María José would like to develop a professional career in the world of flamenco because it is her real vocation and the one which she most likes. Despite the fact that she would like singing to become her future job, she continues her studies of Logopedia –speech therapy- at the university.
The second show was performed by La Macanita, then Rocío Segura and finally El Cabrero accompanied by the guitarist Manuel de Palma.
